Ok please tell me why these Halloween couples portraits are some of my favorite newlywed photos of all time 😠and that wasn't even the purpose of the shoot LOL
The concept for this shoot was a mini session of Eddie and Derek's Halloween costumes as Micky and Malory from the movie Natural Born Killers. They wanted to do their iconic looks more justice than a few phone selfies could and wanted to capture their looks on film.

I've been photographing Portland portraits on film for the past two years, and I've been following Eddie on Instagram pretty much that entire time, and loving all their hair content. Eddie and I met for the first time at a pride event that I was shooting photos for Concrete Treehouse Salon and I was like, hi 🤓 i'm a fan! So when they hit me up saying they'd been craving a photoshoot with me I was like 🥹 yes plz.
The logistics of this shoot were surprisingly tricky for a 30-minute portrait session. Eddie mentioned they were going to have a veil and wanted to mimic the scene in the movie after Micky and Malory get married, cut their hands with a knife, and Malory's veil goes flying into the air from on top of a bridge.
I suggested Lower Macleay in Forest Park, which is one of my favorite photoshoot locations for anyone who wants a classic Portland bridge vibe but doesn't want to make the trek all the way to Cathedral Park in St. Johns. That being said it was still a trek from SE without a car. I did get caught in the pouring rain on the way to the shoot and showed up soaking wet, while Eddie and Derek got stuck behind a train in rush hour traffic - thank you Portland. But it was all worth it when Eddie and Derek showed up in their Natural Born Killers costumes - omg the BOOTS and the TATS, it was perfect.

We were also racing against the dwindling light - Eddie is a hairstylist and Derek is a tattoo artist and we weren't able to get together until around 5:30, shortly before the sun was setting. Thankfully I had some Fujifilm 400 which does a decent job in low light situations, plus my Godox film flash which looks like a tool for contacting aliens but actually attaches straight to the hot shoe on my Pentax K1000 and has a variety of flash settings.
But honestly I'm obsessed with how every single shot came out. The flash was perfect for the fake blood looks and for freezing the action of the veil. We took so many shots of that veil flying around on top of the bridge, and got a few congratulatory honks from passersby probably thinking we were doing an engagement shoot.

We ended the shoot with a few running shots across the bridge followed by the iconic moment when Malory (Eddie) sends their veil flying through the air.
This will go down as one of the most iconic shoots I've done as a Portland photographer. If you're looking for your own portrait shoot or an engagement photography package on film, slide in for rates and availability.
