Creative portraits on film at Portland's New Wave Studio

New Wave Studio in SE Portland is a photographer's playground.

With no less than 5 distinct backdrop options and an impressive collection of props and gear, this Portland photo studio is such a fun place to play with creative portraiture. I had the honor of participating in a Portland boudoir photographer event at New Wave Studio with other photographers, videographers and models last week and the results of everyone's shoots have been insane.

I collaborated with Ana on a boudoir shoot that was more innocent and flirty than overtly sexy and risque. We played against the white backdrop for a simple, angelic vibe that captures Ana's ethereal look. The addition of the tulip adds that pop of color and visual interest to a minimalist portrait.

As a creative Portland headshot photographer, I love experimenting with different mediums and lighting setups. Throughout the 3-hour shoot we alternated between digital shots, 35mm film portraits (pictured here), and Super 8 video footage on a new (to me) camera that I've been wanting to include in my photo and video packages.

I still have to finish going through the digital pics and send the Super 8 film out for processing, but I just got the film photos back from the shoot and I'm obsessed. 20 of the 22 shots I got are 10/10 keepers.

I loved working with Ana because they brought such fun playful energy, were so down to try lots of poses and props, and came locked and loaded with fits and accessories. I've wanted to shoot with Ana since the first time we met (at a dark fantasy backyard wedding last fall), and I'm hopeful this will be the first shoot of many.

After we got the angelic light vibes, we played around with a few edgy boudoir looks, complete with a black bandana around the neck and a chain choker (made by Ana) and then moved onto a "sexy grandpa" vibe with the big glasses and fuzzy sweater.

I would love to do more of this kind of portrait and boudoir shooting - in a studio with creative props incorporated. I would also love to do more intentional styling and work with larger teams of hair stylists, MUAs, and fashion stylists - if this sounds like you or something you would be into collaborating on, or if you're just looking for a Portland photographer who can bring your creative ideas to life, get in touch.

I offer Portland lifestyle photoshoots, personal branding photography for new and growing businesses, creative boudoir photography on film, day-in-the-life engagement photography packages on film and digital, and candid Portland wedding photos.
